REI Boathouse Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any age requirements for the watercraft?

Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. If they want to paddle a boat or board by themselves, they must be large enough to fit into a life vest and hold a paddle properly. Children ages 6 and up may ride on a paddleboard or in a tandem kayak or canoe with a responsible adult and must wear a life vest.

Will REI provide any instruction to new paddlers?

A safety briefing and orientation will happen for every customer. REI staff can offer brief higher level instruction as needed for rental customers. Class customers will receive detailed instruction throughout the program.

How long are the rental periods?

REI offers hourly, half-day (4 hours), full day (open to one hour before close), and weekend packages. Weekend packages last from open on Saturday to one hour before closing on Sunday.

What is REI offering at the Park?

REI is offering SUP, kayak, and canoe rentals by the hour, ½ day, and full day. We will also be offering normal outdoor school classes starting from that location (both watersports and land-based).

Parking Information

Parking is not included in the price of rentals.

  • Daily parking is $20 per car
  • Annual Parking Passes are $40 per car

How can I pay?

For rentals, you can pay in person at the Stone Mountain Boathouse. For classes you can register and pay online at www.rei.com/stonemountain. If registration is closed online you will not be able to register. You may be able to join the class in person if there is space the day of the class. REI is currently accepting all major credit and debit cards.

Can rental customers use any of their own equipment?

Personal life vests and paddles may be used for rentals but will be inspected by REI staff.

Are dogs allowed on or in the watercraft rentals?

Yes, but only if they have a life vest specifically for them (REI does not have life vests for dogs available).
