Employment: Audition Requirements

Stone Mountain Park is proud to partner with IO Productions (www.ioproductions.net) to bring the Atlanta area the very best in Christmas entertainment. IO's phenomenal staff of directors, designers, musicians, and choreographers will be on park for the rehearsal process. For this reason, all auditions will be videotaped for review by IO before any final casting decisions are made. For more information on IO Productions' staff, please see the bottom of this page.

All performers are expected to participate in the Crossroads Christmas Parade, which is a 10-minute, approx. 1/2 mile parade through the main attractions area of our park.

FOR ALL PERFORMERS, which includes USHERS: You must schedule an appointment. Please bring headshot/resume. We ask that you arrive 20 minutes early for your audition time. You may be asked to read from a side that we provide. All applicants must be age 16 or older at time of audition. All conflicts must be provided when you audition. SINGER/DANCERS: Prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre/pop/R&B song or Christmas carol that shows off your abilities. Bring sheet music in your correct key. An accompanist will be provided. Please, no recorded accompaniment or a capella. Bring appropriate dance clothes and shoes.

We will be casting: 5 men, 5 women for Simply Christmas, a holiday revue featuring strong pop-voices and high-impact dancing.

3 men, 3 women for Sleigh Ride, a children's song and dance show featuring Santa's Elves on an international tour of Christmas celebrations. Character voices and high-energy movers are musts.

2 men, 2 women for Winter Wonderland, a brand-new cabaret style show featuring jazzy versions of cold weather favorites. Must be able to move well.


SINGERS:  Prepare 16 bars of a legit piece, hymn, or carol with accompaniment, and be prepared to learn and perform a song in 4-part harmony for callbacks.

We will be casting: 2 bass, 2 tenor, 2 alto, and 2 soprano voices for our strolling quartet of carolers who perform Christmas classics a capella in 4-part harmony. Looking for singers with a wide vocal range who can blend and hold key.

PIANISTS: Prepare a selection that not only shows off your musical skills but also your ability to perform. Christmas and Jazz arrangements are encouraged.  Please bring any other instruments you play that would be appropriate in an intimate cabaret setting and be prepared to play quick excerpts. You must be able to read sheet music or chords. Sight-reading skills and playing-by-ear are encouraged. Piano or keyboard will be provided.

We will be casting: 2 PIANISTS for the jazzy revue Winter Wonderland.

All actors and storytellers should prepare a 1-minute comic monologue or humorous story appropriate for family entertainment. Our shows are geared for families with children, which should be reflected in your audition piece.

We will be casting:

4 or 5 ACTORS and ACTRESSES with comedic experience of all types for our rollicking parody, A Crossroads Christmas Carol. Improv ability is a strong plus.

3 ACTORS to play our Tin Soldiers who have outgoing, friendly personalities and enjoy being around children. You must be able to march in time and have good basic rhythm.

5 STORYTELLERS to play Mrs. Claus, Grandma, and Grandpa.

2 ACTRESSES to portray our Snow Angel. You must be comfortable in personal interactions with children, and with being flown approx. 30 feet off the ground.

CHARACTER MASCOTS and USHERS. Individuals interested in being an usher or mascot should be prepared to read and interpret a short speech which we will provide. Friendly personalities and big voices are a must for this position.

We are not casting Santa Claus at this time.

More information on some of IO's fantastic staff:

            IO's choreographer, Thomas Murphy, has been in show business for over 30 years. As an Entertainer, Choreographer, Show Director and Producer, he has entertained audiences world-wide, performing alongside renowned professionals such as Gene Kelly, Liza Minnelli, Carol Channing, and Ben Vereen, as well as Opryland Productions as a principal performer, including television roles on “Nashville Palace Live”, hosted by Minnie Pearl and Slim Pickens, and “A Night of Stars and Future Stars”, hosted by Gene Kelly – Dick Clark Productions.  Thomas also traveled the world aboard Scandinavian World Cruise Line as the Production Entertainment Director and Choreographer for their fleet of five world class ships. Currently, Thomas is a Creative Show Director with the Walt Disney Event Group where he provides creative direction and choreography for the development of new projects, convention entertainment, and special events. Thomas joined IO Productions in 2003 as a Show Director and Choreographer, providing entertainment for the Paramount Theme parks across America and Canada, as well as Stone Mountain Park, Atlanta, Georgia. 2010 will proudly mark Thomas’ fourth holiday entertainment season as Show Director and Choreographer with Stone Mountain Park, Atlanta, Georgia.


            IO's Music Director and Composer, Jeff Smith, is known around the country for his expertise in developing show concepts, writing original music, arranging vocals, writing orchestrations, as well as his hands-on approach to music direction on site. His production company, Whirlwind Productions, Inc., boasts an impressive clientele, including Paramount Parks, Premier Parks (Six Flags), Walt Disney World Entertainment, Sea World, Warner Brothers, and Coca-Cola among others. Jeff was awarded the Silver Microphone Award in 1994 for best original restaurant jingle. Stone Mountain Park is thrilled to welcome Jeff, and the entire IO Productions Staff,  back for a fourth Holiday season with us.
