Team Building Stone Mountain Park

Stone Mountain Expedition

Join us for the most incredible team building events offered in any state in the union: The Stone Mountain Expedition.

The Stone Mountain Expedition is modeled on the now famous Eco Challenges, where teams of men and women must work together in a timed event to overcome numerous obstacles and challenges, and go where no team has ever gone before.

While not as rigorous or as grueling as a real Eco Challenge, the Stone Mountain Expedition is one of Georgia’s most popular and innovative team building events. This corporate team challenge event pits small teams against each other in a friendly competition to climb Stone Mountain (using various detours off the Walk Up Trail) to find and execute as many fun, engaging, and complex team tasks as they can within a three hour window---and not get hopelessly lost on the mighty mountain.

These expeditionary tasks, when completed successfully, will earn them valuable team points, points they will need as they strive to reach the summit and engage the final Expedition challenges.

Here’s how it works.
The Expedition begins at the base of mighty Stone Mountain, where teams assemble with their InnerWork mountain guides, and are issued special Expedition equipment, large colorful team flags, and team code names like Alpha, Bravo, Delta, Whiskey, Zulu, and more. They are also issued special Expedition Guidebooks and maps that detail their mission. In minutes, they must set up a Base Camp, plan their Expedition strategy, assign key roles, and prepare to launch their ascent before the starting gun fires.

When the ascent teams take off, it won’t be an easy walk up this granite wonder. They must navigate carefully through the crevasses and rugged terrain of the Mountain, using advance scouts and their maps to locate the secret locations of high scoring events. They must also be on the lookout for other teams who may want to steal their Flag or even take some of them hostage!

The Expedition also tests teams ability to change and make decisions under pressure. Expedition conditions will be changing all the time, as new information appears and bonus opportunities arise that force the teams to "choose wisely" what they can do, and where they can go, before their time to reach the summit elapses, and they risk disqualification!

As each team progresses on their Expedition, they face increasingly escalating tests of their ability to work together. If they are successful—and don’t wash out—they learn the importance of team trust, communication, interpersonal support, accountability, risk-taking, commitment, and many other high performance team principles.

As the teams reach the summit, the Expedition concludes with rousing team presentations on the summit of key team lessons learned---and for serious bonus points--- an optional Team Song capturing their heroic exploits. Somebody, please bring a camera, or camcorder!

Prizes awarded for Gold, Silver, and Bronze levels of team performance as good-natured rivalry flows into a post Expedition celebration back down at pavilions at the base of the mountain.
